SUPERIOR POWDER COATINGS
Knotwood is pre-finished in a long-lasting, electrostatically applied powder coating. A combination of detailed preparation, careful workmanship, and the latest technology have come together to bring you your powder-coated Knotwood product. Powder coating is one of the most durable color coatings available and will provide many years of excellent service. Knotwood powder coatings are maintainable for an indefinite period under normal environmental conditions, provided that the simple recommended care and maintenance practices are followed.
MAINTENANCE
With no need to paint, stain, or treat Knotwood building products, the easy maintenance involved pales in comparison. Each surface needs regular washing to maintain the beauty of your powder-coated aluminum, not just the areas sheltered from the rain. Much like looking after a new car, a regular wash with a microfiber cloth, sponge, or soft bristle brush and mild pH-neutral detergent (pH range 5-9) followed by a thorough rinsing will keep your project looking its best for years to come.
For best results, cleaning should take place when the surface temperature is below 77°F and not in direct sunlight. This process removes substances such as airborne salts, dirt, and pollutants that could hinder the powder-coated film's long-term performance.
Cleaning frequency is determined by environment. In non-hazardous rural or typical urban environments, cleaning should occur at a minimum of every 12 months. In coastal environments (without direct salt spray), swimming pool surrounds, and light industrial areas, every 6 months is recommended. In beachfront, marine, and heavy industrial environments, every 3 months is the minimum. Sheltered areas may require more frequent inspection and cleaning, as wind-blown salt and pollutants are not naturally rinsed away by rain.

CARE
Care should be taken during surrounding construction work to prevent concrete, plaster, paint splatter, and sealants from contacting Knotwood surfaces. These should be removed immediately with fresh water before they have a chance to dry.

If stubborn residue or pain splashes need to be removed after drying, only Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or methylated spirits are recommended. Always test on a non-visible area first, then wash immediately with pH-neutral detergent and rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Do not apply in direct sunlight or when the surface temperature is above 77°F.

Strong or abrasive household cleaners, thinners, turpentine, white spirits, citrus-based cleaners, cutting compounds, and other abrasive products are harmful to powder coating and must not be used under any circumstances, as they remove layers of the finish and accelerate weathering.
